Synopsis:

What happens when a cocky bad boy falls for a good girl?
I'm Connor 'Alpha Male' Anderson. Pound for pound I'm the best MMA fighter in America, and I've got the brains, balls, and brawn to back it up - 230 pounds of pure muscle, infinite charm, and the stamina to last all night long. But with the biggest fight of my career coming up, I've got to keep my pants zipped and get my head in the game. That's when Frankie Jones comes in. An amazingly hot yoga teacher, she drives me crazy with those booty shorts and sports bras. I'll hold downward dog as long as she wants so I can show her my cobra. She's a total bombshell, feisty, and challenges me every step of the way. She doesn't fall for my alpha game, and that only turns me on more. But how can I get myself into her skin-tight leggings, with the pressure of this title match coming up and my trainer's orders to keep it in my pants? Before I met Frankie, all I wanted was to win this fight. But now? All I want is her. Opposites attract in this Standalone Romance Novel with an HEA that will knock you out!

This is the moment MMA and JD Hawkins fans around the world have been waiting for. It’s time for Secrets of an Alpha Male! In the blue corner, weighing in at “two hundred and thirty pounds of invincible” is Connor “Alpha Male” Anderson. He hails originally from Stockton, raised by a single dad when his mom passed away at the age of 10. His dad got him into martial arts and without a parent around constantly, he put everything he had into it. He’s pretty philosophical and loves the readings of Dostoyevsky and Socrates. He even learns to focus on his breathing like the Buddha. There is so much going on in his head that he can’t settle down and focus; “Connor the Alpha Male, Connor the smart mouth, Connor the money fight.” When he overhears a conversation while standing in line at the Woodland Smoothies, the embodied voice intrigues him to turn around and see who it belongs to and if the person matches that beautiful voice.
In the red corner is twenty-five year old, struggling yoga instructor, Frankie Jones. She’s fiercely independent maybe a bit too proud and doesn’t want to be considered a charity case by her successful sister, Jaime. Sure, things aren’t all that great at her yoga studio and she is behind on payments, but she has a creative mind and a business plan on how to make it successful. It starts with having Connor showing up and participating in her classes, especially the ones involving the children she does for charity work. Frankie’s character will eventually entice any reader to want to be like her. She’s a force to be reckoned with and has an old soul spirit that doesn’t have a hate bone in her body.
This pair has their ups and downs but in the end, they always find themselves drawn back to each other. Connor has a couple of upcoming fights that can make or break him. His first one doesn’t go as well as all the hype around it and the man is pretty much broken afterwards; he’s thinking about Frankie and the fight they had, he got caught up in the frenzy; he became what everyone wanted him to be and forgot what HE wanted to be. He enlists Frankie to teach him meditation, breathing, body scanning, whatever it will take to get him grounded and ready for the Title Fight.
Along the way, Connor learns that “the real secrets of an alpha male are just a man with a big mouth, and massive ego, and a lot of fears that he keeps locked up inside.” Frankie teaches him to find that inner peace, by happy with your own self, and to lose the fear living inside him while Connor helps empower Frankie, making her realize how amazing she is and that things will turn around for her but she has to believe in herself.
JD Hawkins is one of my “must one-click” authors and this one did not disappoint. I immensely enjoyed the obvious MMA and yoga research along with the philosophical edge based on the details inside this book. His imagination for creating a story and delivering on it makes him a fan favorite! I am honored that I received a free advance reader copy of this book and can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next!
